Design for Social Innovation

This session includes my insights, designs, and case studies on historians, cultural theorists, public figures, and designers who have had a social impact. By doing this, I not only gained more knowledge of the field but also reflected on and practiced my role as a designer in contributing to a better society.

From both historical and social perspectives, technology development really changing the way people see and feel time and space.

For this project, I drew insights from my readings and my own life experiences during the pandemic. While attending classes from China that were scheduled in the Pacific Time Zone, I struggled with the 16-hour time difference, which made me feel disconnected from both my physical surroundings and social environment. I constantly had to check the time on my clock, laptop, or phone to stay on schedule, following a virtual plan instead of the natural clock. This sense of disconnection persisted even after I moved to California, where I felt distant from my family in China.

Consequently, I began to contemplate how current or future technology might help bridge this gap and improve the situation.
